Who are we?
Bed & breakfast ‘De Gastenkamer’ is been run by Adrie Huisman-Smedema (1968), born and raised in the village Ee. In her absence, her daughter Laura Huisman (1999) will take on the honours of running the B&B. Laura is currently studying Marketing Management at the Hanze University in Groningen. Adrie’s husband, Ed Huisman (1964), has his own glass construction company and son Maarten (2005) is student on the Maritime Academy in Harlingen.
What’s so special about Adrie her Bed and Breakfast is that the sense of feeling at home dominates. This is mainly due to the cosy design, something that can be entrusted by Adrie as a home stylist. For years she has been running her own furniture store, first in Amsterdam, later on in Ee. ‘’What distinguishes us is the basic stock of supplies in all of our accommodations, from coffee filters to tea lights, everything is present. Our goal is to unburden our guests completely. We see guests coming in stressed by arrival who will fully unwind during their stay. There are not as many incentives here as in the West part of the country. Due to the unique landscape, friendly people, and the healthy air, people will settle down whilst they are here. I can confirm, me and my husband have been living in Amsterdam for twelve years. It was a beautiful time but nothing beats the healthy environment on the Frisian countryside.’’
From Ee on, you can make delightful walks, bike or boat rides. The village is located near the Waddensea (which is on the world heritage list), the National Park Lauwersmeer (Dark Sky Park), and the Eleven Cities city Dokkum. Bicycle and walking routes are available at our reception. With the old rescue boat that we have for rent, you can sail along the Dokkumer Grootdiep to the city canals of Dokkum. An additional benefit of residing in Ee, is that the coastal winds always tend to blow harder which make the summer heat less warm. The location is ideal for guests who would like to make a day trip to Ameland or Schiermonnikoog. Ee is a twenty-minute drive from the ferry ports.
